Hi All!
First of all i'll take this chance to say hello to everyone as I am a new user to this forum.
This is a great site, excellent job is done over here!
Naturally i have a problem too.
I have a PC running XP Home completely up to date. It has an amd processor with 512Ram and 160 Gb HDD.
I started it up last week and nothing would open. Every .exe or shortcut to .exe when clicked would launch adobe reader and tell me that (obviously) adobe reader cannot open this type of file.Even control panel would do the same.I double left-clicked on the icon of CCleaner on my desktop but the same thing happened.I found the way to open it, by right clicking it, and selecting 'open'. I un-installed adobe reader using CCleaner tool thinking that re-installing adobe reader would solve the problem.
Once un-installed everything i tried to open made a window pop up asking me to select a program to open it with.
At this point i did some google-ing and did this as suggested in an italian forum:
downloaded combofix,rename it abc and give the command
'% userprofile%desktopabc.exe' /killall
Everything went fine and all was working on the pc.
I went to the adobe.com page to download adobe reader and tried to download it. But when i got to accept the activeX control, ie8 crushed.
Did that 10 times, restarted twice but nothing. I could not even move the mouse over the yellow activeX top bar that ie8 crushed all the time. I went to filehippo.com(pretty good site) downloaded the latest version (tried also with the older versions actually with no luck!) installed it and the same problem occurred. Everything i tried to open popped up the adobe reader window together with the error log.
I installed malwarebytes, CCleaner, Killbot search and destroy and lots other stuff. Looked for Forums but found nothing.
So i turned to this forum... Any hint for this unbelievable series of happenings?
